THU OCT 6-10 2022 Rome, Italy

Day 1
We arrived around 8:00 a.m. this morning after a long sleepless night on the plane. I've never done well sleeping on a plane.
Then we caught a cab from the airport to our hotel, Lord, Byron. The room of course was not ready. So, we set out on a walking journey to find an ATM. We have been warned only to use a bank ATM otherwise the fees would be 20%.

After that, I searched Google places for a lunch spot, nearby and found Cafe Delle Arti within walking distance.  When we got there we delighted to see it was an outdoor cafe attached to the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Rome. We had a couple of classes of wine and a pizza
after lunch we went back and had a nap. Much needed.

This evening we had dinner at Ristorante Nino. Very authentic Italian.

Day 2
Today, we started at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art with Lunch at the cafe. Then off on a golf cart tour of the city. It was a great overview of Rome.

Day 3
Vatican museum, Sistine chapel St Peter basilica tours. Exhausting. There were so many people at the Vatican Museum and the Sistine chapel. It was actually uncomfortable. But the highlight was St. Peter's basilica where we were on our own to explore. Because it's such a large area, the crowds did not seem as oppressive. Then we found an English pub and had fish and chips and a beer for lunch. A little more exploration and then back to the hotel for a nap. Tonight we ate with the locals. My neighborhood restaurant that was packed at 8:30.
Day 4
Today we slept unusually late. Missing breakfast. We grabbed a cup of coffee and headed out to the museum of Leonardo da. Vinci. Kind of a let down. Not sure what I was expecting.  Then we stopped for lunch at a cafe LaPolorama. We both had the fettuccine with  porcini mushrooms and it was great. We did a little shopping among the crowd but didn't buy a thing.

Tonight dinner at Antico Falcone a recommendation from the bartender at our hotel.  Unfortunately, I can't recommend it as highly as he did.
Tomorrow we're off to the coast to board Holland America's Oosterdam for our Mediterranean cruise.
