Critique of work at the last class

Image
During the last class there were 4 of us that participated in a critique session.  I came away with some good ideas to work on. The first was that my form is good, but the weight is wrong fro the form. I need to concentrate of making more with less clay. In laymen terms, "my pots are too heavy".  Another piece of advice was to not try so hard to copy someone else's pottery ideas, but to take something that I like in the idea and make it my own. I can really see how that might work if I concentrate on one aspect of the piece that I am trying to mimic. Then I brought home two new pieces and threw one of them away. The glaze on the one that I discarded did not work out.  This is one of those pots that I applied glaze and then wax resist and then another glaze. The glazes ran together and the wax resist was hardly noticeable. This is a piece I decided to keep aput up on Amazon for sale.  It falls into the really heavy category.

Reclaimed From The Kiln

Last night, I reclaimed two pieces that had went to the kiln after glazing. Again, a surprise as they didn't come out in the color that I thought they would.  This next time, I am going to use my own glazes and see if they turn out like I expect. I suspect that the glazes that are supplied become contaminateed over time.

Sold 2 bowls today on Amazon Handmade

Today, I shipped 2 bowls that I made and listed on Amazon Handmade. This is the second time that I sold one of my cermaic pieces. This time I think I priced it a littel better and will make about $10.00 from the sale.  When I went back through the listings that I have on the site I realized that I need to go back through them and do a better job of  describing the items.  I will begin to work on that next week.
